Land use change of China based on NDVI and landscape ecology

Land use change plays vital roles in regional, social and economic development. Based on three phases of NDVI and climate images acquired in 1982, 1990 and 1998, and fuzzy rule-based classification, this paper took China as a case study to analyze spatial change of land use by combining NDVI, Landscape indices and transformation matrix. The research results indicate that land use has grown more and more diversified and unbalanced, and human activities have disturbed the landscape more seriously. Especially, maximum change of land use comes from farmland and forestland, and follows by grassland. Nevertheless, it is noticeable that maximum change of unable land comes from grassland. © 2010 IEEE.
