Formulation of culture medium for superoxide dismutase production by Rhodotorula glutinis RY-06 strain with high yield of beta-carotene

This paper reported the formulation of culture medium for the production of superoxide dismutase (SOD) by Rhodotorula glutinis RY-06 strain with high yield of beta-carotene. The optimum composition of medium was as follows: sucrose as carbon source, peptone as nitrogen source, the ratio of carbon source to nitrogen source as 1:1 (w/w), 500 μmol/L of Fe3+ (using FeCl 3) as metal ion of the coenzyme. The SOD activity could reach 2.19×104 U/L in the preliminary optimized medium. The results suggested that strain RY-06 not only has high yield of beta-carotene but also can produce a mass of SOD under appropriate conditions. © 2008 IEEE.
