The title compound, C28H32N4O6, crystallizes with one half-molecule in the asymmetric unit and the other half generated by an inversion centre. The compound has a crown structure and is an important intermediate for the synthesis of biologically active 1,7-dioxa-4,10-diazacyclododecane derivatives. Intermolecular pi-pi stacking interactions, with a perpendicular distance of 3.57 angstrom, involving the planar phthalimide groups and weak C-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds are present.
