New lanthanide chalcogenidostannates [Ln(2)(en)(6)(mu(2)-OH)(2)][Sn2S6] (Ln = Dy (1), Er (2)) and [Dy-2(en)(6)(mu(2)-OH)(2)][Sn2Se6] (3) (en = ethylenediamine) were synthesized by reactions of SnCl4 and S (or Se) with Ln(2)O(3) oxides under the mild solvothermal conditions. Compounds 1-3 are isostructural and consist of a binuclear lanthanide(III) complex cation [Ln(2)(en)(6)(P-2-OH)(2)](4+) and a dimeric anion [Sn2E6](4-) (E = S, Se). The anion is composed of two SnE4 tetrahedra sharing a common edge with C-2h symmetry. All the lanthanide(III) atoms are eight-coordinate by six nitrogen atoms of three en ligands and two oxygen atoms of two mu(2)-OH groups forming distorted bicapped trigonal prisms. In compounds 1-3, extensive hydrogen bonds are formed leading to three-dimensional networks of anions and cations. Compounds 1-3 remove all the organic part in one step upon heating in the nitrogen stream.
