Post-processing method for the DCT compressed image up-conversion

Image up-conversion is available in image/ video spatial scalability encoding and many display end devices. For the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) domain image upsizing, it often causes blurring and blocking artefacts. An image spatial resolution enhancement method is proposed for the DCT compressed images. The method adopts the cycle-spinning methodology used in the reduction of blocking artefacts for the compressed images. The perceptual and objective results show that the proposed method produces better performance than the corresponding DCT zero padding image up-conversion method.
