Embryo Abortion And Pollen Parent Effects In 'Nuomici' And 'Guiwei' Litchi

This paper reports on embryo abortion and pollen influence in 'Nuomici' and 'Guiwei' litchi. The mechanisms of embryo abortion were different in these cultivars and the proportion of shriveled-seeded fruit was largely dependent on pollen parents. The proportion of shriveled-seeded fruit was about 81-90% for 'Nuomici', after pollinating with 'Sanyuehong', 'Heiye', 'Guiwei', 'Hongli', 'Jiangjunli', 'Hexiachuan', and 'Xuhuaizi', but only 7.5% with 'Dazao'. In contrast, frequency of shriveled-seeded fruit in 'Guiwei' was 4.7, 17.6, 25.0, 30.0, 64.8, 75.0 and 95.1% 'Zhuangyuanhong', 'Jiangjunli', 'Sanyuehong', 'Huaizhi' and 'Nuomici'.
