Nonlinear optical (NLO) copolyimides (COPIs) were prepared from a second-order nonlinear optical chromophore containing diamine, 4-nitro-4′ [N-(4, 6-di-4-aminophenylamino)-1, 3, 5-triazin-2-yl]aminoazobenzene (M1). Pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA) was used as the dianhydride monomer. A small amount of a silicon-containing diamine, bis (3-aminopropyl)-1,1′, 3,3′- tetramethyldisiloxane (SiDA) was used to promote the adhesion between the COPIs and glass substrate. The physical properties of the COPIs and the effects of the chromophore loading level on properties were determined.
