The current response of Co3+/2+ was dramatically enhanced at single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) modified gold electrodes in the presence of excess 1,10-phenanthroline. The interaction between Co3+/2+/1, 10-phenanthroline and ssDNA was investigated by ultraviolet spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. Based on the highly sensitive electrochemical responses of Co3+/2+ at ssDNA modified gold electrodes in the presence of 1,10-phenanthroline, a method for the detection of trace cobalt was developed.
