Study on the antimicrobial activity of antibiotic 89-07 in vivo

In vivo protection experiment against 12 clinical isolates of antibiotic 89-07, a novel aminoglycoside antibiotic was conducted. The therapeutic efficacy of antibiotic 89-07 against intraperitoneal infection with S. aureus, E. coli, K. pneumoniae, Shigella, Proteus was superior to that of gentamicin, tobramycin and amikacin both by iv and sc in mice. The therapeutic efficacy of antibiotic 89-07 was inferior to that of netilmicin against infection by Ps. aeruginosa in mice. The ED 50s of antibiotic 89-07 were 4.08 and 2.06 mg/kg against S. aureus 92-198, 0.83 and 1.60 mg/kg against E. coli 90-20, 4.07 and 3.79 mg/kg against Ps. aeruginosa 92-26 in mice by iv or sc respectively. Results showed that antibiotic 89-07 have excellent activities against S. aureus, Proteus, E. coli, K. pneumonia and Ps. aeruginosa which are resistant to gentamicin in vivo.
