The Relationship between Polymorphism of Perilipin C1229T and the Changes of Tg Induced by Metoprolol

Objective: To investigate the correlation of the polymorphism of perilipin (PLIN) and change of TG induced by metoprolol monotherapy in Chinese patients with essential hypertension. Methods: Ninety-seven patients with essential hypertension received metoprolol (100 mg��d-1) for 8 weeks. Before and after the treatment, venous blood samples were collected from each individual. Biochemical indexes were measured to assess the influence of metoprolol during treatment, such as blood glucose, triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) and low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C). The single nucleotide polymorphism of PLIN rs2304796 C>T was determined by gene sequencing. Results: After metoprolol administration, the levels of TG were increased significantly [(2.05��2.42) vs (2.38��2.71) mmol��L-1, P=0.016], while there was no difference in the levels of glucose, TC, HDL-C and LDL-C. PLIN rs2304796 C>T was associated with TG change. Patients with TT genotype had the greatest increase in TG than those with CT or CC genotype [(1.40��3.21), (0.26��1.07) and (0.23��1.02) mmol��L-1, P=0.047]. Conclusion: PLIN rs2304796 C>T polymorphism is associated with TG level increase induced by metoprolol in Chinese hypertensive patients.
