Detection of specific IgE in serum of children with allergic rhinitis and its clinical significance

Objective: Investigating the main allergen distribution and characteristics in the children with allergic rhinitis, in order to guide the clinical prevention and treatment. Design: 20 common allergens and specific IgE antibodies in serum of patents were determined through Western blot. Results: All the 938 patients were positive to at least one allergen, including 487 cases of children with total IgE was greater than 400 IU/ml, 230 cases ranging from 200 IU/ml ~ 400 IU/ml. In 20 specific allergens, the leading allergens were house dust and mite; the positive rates were 90.0% and 80.8%. Conclusion: At least one specific IgE antibody increases significantly in children with allergic rhinitis, the main allergens for the children with allergic rhinitis were house dust, dust mite, pet skin scraps, mutton and milk. Children are susceptible to allergic rhinitis in spring and autumn. © 2013 Japan International Cultural Exchange Foundation & Japan Health Sciences University.
