A hybrid admissible distortion checking algorithm within the vertex-based operational rate-distortion optimal shape coding framework

Existing admissible distortion (AD) checking algorithms within the vertex-based operational rate-distort- ion optimal shape coding framework involve quantization, parameterization, or polyline approximation, thus, they are inaccurate, a waste of bits, or time-consuming, respectively. In this paper, we provide a hybrid AD checking algorithm, which integrates our proposed accurate distortion measurement in the continuous case into the fast AD checking algorithm using the parameterization method. Experiments show that our proposal has a high accuracy, small bit-rate and low computational complexity.
