Research and development of damage tolerance titanium alloys for aeronautical use in China

In order to meet the design and application requirements for large size, high efficiency of weight saving, long life, and low cost in new airplanes, the use of damage tolerance titanium alloy and its application technology is an important method, for example the moderate strength alloy Ti6Al4V ELI and high strength alloy Ti-6-22-22S used in airplanes such as F-22/F-35, C-17 etc. The new type titanium alloys of moderate strength TC4-DT titanium alloy and high strength TC21 titanium alloy have been developed in China, and their ( processing technology has been developed too, which establishes the titanium alloys system in applications of aeronautical structures in China. In the paper, the damage tolerance titanium alloys and its research development condition of new type processing technologies and techniques have been analyzed. And combined with the research progress of new type damage tolerance titanium alloy in China, material characteristic, properties level and application prospect of the new type damage tolerance titanium alloy have been discussed.
