ALTERNATIVE (NONSTIMULANT) MEDICATIONS IN THE TREATMENT OF ATTENTION-DEFICIT/HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER IN CHILDREN

The stimulant medications remain the treatment of choice for ADHD. When these medications cannot be used, there are alternative medications to consider. These include the tricyclic antidepressants and specific alpha-adrenergic antagonists. The indications for each of these nonstimulant medications and details on clinical use are discussed in this article.
