Strictly aquatic, these frogs seem to prefer millponds, hydraulic lakes, reservoirs, and any type of permanent water, such as lakes, ponds, bogs, rivers, and creeks. Also found in sluggish backwaters and oxbow ponds. They depend on water that is deep enough to hold tadpoles throughout the winter.
