EFFECTS OF RADIOFREQUENCY ABLATION OF SUPRAVENTRICULAR REENTRANT TACHYCARDIA ON LEFT-VENTRICULAR SYSTOLIC DYSFUNCTION

The effects of acute tachycardia on left ventricular (LV) function were described previously,1,2 and LV dysfunction due to persistent rapid heart rate was well-documented. 3 Some patients show improvement in LV function after treatment of their tachyarrhythmias.3–6 Reversibility of LV function after successful radiofrequency ablation of supraventricular reentrant tachycardia in patients without organic heart disease was not directly quantified previously. We performed a prospective study to find the serial changes of LV function after successful radiofrequency ablation in patients with supraventricular tachycardia-induced LV systolic dysfunction.
