Metadata Plans of Action: A Strategy to Promote Metadata Creation in Spain

The need for creation and publication of geographic information metadata felt by the administrative institutions within the scope of the Spatial Data Infrastructures of Spain has led to starting off a number of strategies to raise awareness of the metadata, supporting its creation, facilitating the process of development and finally trying to achieve its adoption by all institutions. The aim of this paper is to show the initiatives carried out to foster the institutionalization of metadata and its use through the definition of Action Plans for geographic information metadata.
