Diffuse Injury And Age In Severe Closed Head Injury

An improvement on outcome in head trauma is always desirable. With the aim to identify a subset of patient with major risk of morbidity and mortality following traumatic coma in whom an early detection and effective treatment would improve their prognosis, we have realized a study analyzing the outcome of patients with severe head trauma admitted in our Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit. This study shows that the categorization of head trauma according to initial computerized tomography findings and age allows to identify the subsets of patients with worst outcome.
