Additive pulse mode locking for large nonlinear phase shifts

Pulse shaping effects in additive pulse mode locked lasers are investigated and analytical calculations are presented which extend current small signal theories to the region of large nonlinear phase shifts. In this parameter range it is found that spectral filtering introduced by bandwidth limitation is an important element for stable mode locked operation.
