CT Scans and Schizophrenia—Report on a Workshop

The proceedings of a workshop on CT Scans and Psychiatry are summarized. The workshop, cosponsored by the Psychopathology and Clinical Methods Section and the Center for Studies of Schizophrenia, Clinical Research Branch, Division of Extramural Research Programs, National Institute of Mental Health, was held at the Linden Hill Hotel, Bethesda, MD, on April 1–2, 1982. The following topics were reviewed at the conference: a description of problems using this technique, a brief history and recent data, limits of the CT scanning machine, scoring CT scans, prevalence of ventricular abnormality, diagnostic variables, organicity, age and time variables, ventricular enlargement and drug effects, and clinical meaningfulness of ventricular enlargement.
