In this article, Dr Kasatpibal, a nurse in Thailand, explains that the time out, appropriate prophylactic antibiotic administration, appropriate hair removal procedures, proper surgical skin prep, and other evidence-based patient safety initiatives are becoming universal. Just as AORN is the premier source of information related to safe perioperative care for the patient undergoing a surgical procedure in the United States, the Thai Perioperative Nursing Association is the center for dissemination of perioperative nursing information in Thailand. In this world of instant communication and information sharing, international boundaries surrounding patient safety are slowly merging. It has always been understood that nurses around the world want to provide the best possible care for their patients, but it is only more recently that there is increasing agreement on what constitutes best care and how to implement it.
