PAVEMENT-ORIENTED SELF-DIRECTED LEARNING FOR SOUTHERN AFRICA

In Southern Africa, the potential addition of a large number of new personnel, a large growth in infrastructure and a changing technical landscape have increased the focus on and need for pavement training. Self-directed learning (SDL) methods can help provide this training in a timely and efficient manner. The Pavement Guide is developed to investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of SDL tools for use in pavement training. Based on early student surveys, initial reaction to the Pavement Guide concept has been good, which indicates that development of such SDL products is a viable field into which pavement training should expand.
