Conformal Radiotherapy vs. IMRT in Paediatric Neuroblastoma: Balancing Dosimetric Advantages and Secondary Cancer Risks

Background: Locoregional treatment including radiotherapy is a significant factor influencing overall survival in high risk neuroblastoma patients. Standard radiotherapy is delivered by parallel opposed AP-PA field technique and it is not uncommon in clinical practice to compromise PTV volume to respect liver and kidney constrains. Our planning study compared the dosimetric advantage of IMRT over AP-PA field technique and the associated secondary cancer risk to determine best available treatment.
