Uranyl sulfate species sorbed on ion exchangers

Uranyl ions were sorbed on a cation and an anion exchanger from sulfate solutions. The visible and i.r. spectra of the species sorbed were recorded. An assignment of the spectra of the various sorbed species was made by comparing these spectra to those of species present in aqueous and non-aqueous phases. The species identified were UO2HSO4+, UO2(SO4)22− and UO2(SO4)34−. From i.r. data the RUO was evaluated and found to increase from 1·719 to 1·74 Å on increasing the number of coordinated sulfate groups.
