摘要
Salmonellosis is a disease of great importance to pigeon breeder. In order to reduce carriage and to protect animals and consumers, methods of detection and prevention need to be developed. For this purpose, the National Veterinary and Food Research Center (CNEVA: Centre National d'Etudes Veterinaires et Alimentaires), have used an ELISA to detect Salmonella Typhimurium antibodies in pigeons receiving an autogenous vaccine. The vaccine induced protection of 85% of pigeons which had been vaccinated at 7 and 11 weeks of age and of 50% of pigeons which had been vaccinated at 11 weeks of age, whereas all the unvaccinated controls died following challenge. Vaccination did not prevent carriage and shedding.
