Efficient illumination of color AMLCD projection displays using binary optical phase plates

We have developed a novel technique using binary optical phase plates that spatially separate the visible spectrum into three sub-spectra of red, green, and blue, concentrating the sub-spectra at the appropriate AMLCD's pixel locations. Light efficacy of 1.4 ANSI Im/W was obtained using this technique in a single-LCD system.
