Proceedings of the 2nd ACM international workshop on Geotagging and its applications in multimedia

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the Second ACM Workshop on Geotagging and Its Applications in Multimedia -- GeoMM'13. This year's workshop continues its tradition of building a forum for the presentation and synthesis of vision and insight from leading experts and practitioners on the developing directions of geotagging research related to multimedia. As the location based multimedia becomes more and more popular in the era of Web and mobile applications, the increase in the use of geotagging and improvements in geo-location support systems open up a new dimension for the description, organization and manipulation of multimedia data. This new dimension radically expands the usefulness of multimedia data both for daily users of the Internet and social networking sites as well as for experts in particular application scenarios. Following the success in 2012, the GeoMM workshop serves as a venue for the premier research in geotagging and multimedia, and continues to attract submissions from a diverse set of researchers, who address newly arising problems within this emerging field. The call for papers attracted many submissions from Asia, Europe, and the United States, covering topics including, but not limited to, innovative models of geotagging and interesting phenomenon in geotagging. We finally select five papers which explore the new theory and new applications related to geotagging. Moreover, we are proud to host three keynote speakers who have done influential work in this field. Their talks will provide cutting edge overviews of the state of the art in this field: "What Happens Where?", John R. Smith (IBM Watson Research Center) "Exploring the world through photos", Bart Thomee (Yahoo! Research, Barcelona) "Vision with a Billion Eyes", Jiebo Luo (University of Rochester) Finally, a panel discussion explores in depth the promising future in this field. We would encourage attendees to attend the panel and raise your questions to the experts in the field.
