Application study on three alternative methods for acute oral toxicity testing

Objective To evaluate the application value of 3 alternative methods,fixed dose procedure(FDP),acute toxic class method(ATC) and up and down procedure(UDP),for acute oral toxicity testing.Methods 3 alternative methods from OECD were applied to assess 13 chemicals(7 disinfector raw materials and 6 pesticide technical materials) respectively.The toxicity rating was according to globally harmonized system(GHS).Then the results was compared with the LD_(50) test and the consistency and correlation between alternative methods and traditional test was found.Results All 3 alternative methods had high consistency and significantly correlation results with the traditional test,and all alternative methods needed fewer test animals but the test period lasted longer.Conclusion 3 alternative methods may have potential to replace the traditional acute oral toxicity tests.
