Onchocercal dermatitis, lymphadenitis, and elephantiasis in the ubangi territory

In July and August 1968 a medical research team-composed of a pathologist, a dermatologist, a microbiologist, a surgeon, a biologist, a laboratory supervisor, and a photographer-studied 37 patients with onchocerciasis in the town of Businga, Ubangi territory, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Clinical findings were correlated with histopathologic changes in the skin and in the lymph nodes. Biopsy specimens were taken before and after treatment with diethylcarbamazine, and the microscopic changes before and after were compared. Our findings are presented in this report.
