A physical theory of finite plasticity from a theoretical perspective

Bell's physical theory for finite plasticity is reviewed and discussed. Motivated by his extensive experimental observations in plasticity, we develop a consistent continuum theory and show in what sense his proposals can be consistent with present concepts in continuum mechanics. Examples and implications of this theory are presented. Additionally, suggestions are made for further experiment and analysis.
