Title: Being Successful in a Changing World Subtitle: Entrepreneurship and Transition in Agriculture

The European agricultural sector is in transition d ue to the fast changing landscape in which it is operating. Interviews in six European c ountries pointed at eight important trends and developments in the farm business enviro nment: globalization of the market, changing EU and national policy, changing consumer demands, changing supply chains, a changing physical environment, a changing demand for functions and services, change in climate and increasing energy prices. These shif ts in the landscape necessitate a profound change in structure, culture and practices in the sector. In short: a transition (Rotmans, 2005) is needed, and may also be said to be imposed by a changing landscape (Geels and Schot, 2007).
