Summary: The 36 th HGC Plenary meeting was held in London. The Commission discussed a draft of a 'Common Framework of Principles' for direct-to-consumer genetic testing services and considered the recommendations to be included in the HGC National DNA Database report. In addition it considered the content of its response to the Nuffield Council on Bioethics Consultation: Medical profiling and online medicine: The ethics of 'personalised' health care in a consumer age and the Home Office Consultation: Keeping the right people on the DNA database. The following day the HGC held a meeting with members of its Consultative Panel who have personal experience of living with genetic conditions. The Panel held discussed with Commissioners the genetic testing of children, the social, ethical and legal implications of preconception screening and new licensing arrangements for PGD from the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority.
