Development of a Cleaning and Deburrins Workstation for the AMRF

ha National Bureau of standards (NBS) is currently developing a facility for conducting reBearch on automated nanufacturing. This facility, called the Autarnrted Hanufacturing Research Facility, or AMRE', io concentrating on Me ~anufa~t~u of machine metal parts in small batches. One aspect of this overall aanufacturi process is the dcburring and cleaning of pa Bm These probl are being addressed in the AMRI" in the Cleaning Deburring Workstatfan. This paper present6 the design philos f this workstut~~n and the approaches to be used in developing an autoaated cleaning and ddurring system, The near-term solution of utiliz ng conventional sass deburring and buff-brush-polish techniques is d scribed. Future approaches involving the use of industrial robot8 to autanatically deburt parts i6 also discussed, including research that is necessary to develop this technology. This research includes force ssrvoing of robots and control of two robots working cooperativaly.
