Introduction to the Special Issue

Two years ago, Evaluation & the Health Professions dedicated three installments of the journal (Volume 29, Nos. 1, 2, and 3) to issues pertaining to the translation of prevention and treatment research. The 16 articles devoted to this topic included the arenas of (a) child and adolescent transportation safety, (b) primary care medical practice, (c) HIV/AIDS, (d) mental health care for serious psychiatric disorders, (e) childhood obesity prevention, and (f) tobacco, alcohol, and other drug abuse prevention. The present (and the next) issue of the journal constitute both a follow-up to our earlier effort and an indication of Evaluation & the Health Professions’ continued commitment to translation research. Recognizing that research, development, and their translation are now global enterprises, the June and September special issues of the journal address the following questions:
