摘要
This book is volume 69 in the long list of Reviews in Mineralogy and Geochemistry publications produced jointly by the Mineralogical Society of America and the Geochemical Society. It is composed of 17 chapters, including an introductory chapter, one on experimental studies, several on thermometers and barometers, and others on petrology, magma ascent rates, melt inclusions, volatiles, isotopes, and mineral textures and zoning. This volume summarizes volcanologic and magmatic processes related to minerals, and how advances made in microanalytical techniques have impacted on the study of those processes. The composition of minerals commonly leads to insights not easily gained from whole-rock analyses. Indeed, minerals and their inclusions can provide information on magma compositions, rates of magma ascent, open-system processes, magma hybridization, and pressure and temperature conditions. The chapters in this book are laid out to essentially reflect these parameters. Chapter 2 begins by tracing the origins of mineral grains and methods to estimate pressures and temperatures of crystallization. An emphasis is placed on crystallization …
