The Dianion Of Nido-Decaborane(14), Nido-Dodecahydrodecaborate(2-), [B10h122-], And Its Solution Behavior

White complexed [M . 0.7diglyme]2B10H12 (M = Na, K) from diglyme solutions of B10H14 and MH form yellow solutions in CH3CN and THF whose H-1 and B-11 NMR spectra suggest highly symmetrical solvent-complexed B10H12. nL(2-) anions similar to arachno-decaborane derivatives. THF, DME, and CH3CN solutions are unstable, converting to other decaborane anions. Unexpected reactions of B10H122- include solvent-mediated conversions and its CH insertion via H(2)CX(2) (X = Cl, Br, I) to form the B10H12CH- anion.
