Effect of AN content in SAN Copolymer on the Morphology and Property of PVC/ABS/DOP Blends

A series of ABS graft copolymers with different acrylonitrile(AN)contents were synthesized by graft-copolymerizing styrene(St) and acrylonitrile(AN) with semi-emulsion copolymerization technique.By melt blending,these copolymers with PVC resin and di-isooctyl phthalate(DOP),PVC/ABS/DOP(40wt/40wt/20wt)blends were prepared.The thermo-deformation resistance,morphology of the blends and dynamic mechanical property were investigated.It was found that bi-continuous phase was formed in these blends.Tg of SAN phase and storage modulus of the blends increased gradually with increasing AN content in SAN copolymers due to the weakness of the interaction between DOP molecular and SAN copolymer,Therefore,thermo-deformation resistance of PVC/ABS/DOP blends was improved and its nature was clarified.
