The reaction of UI3 and KCpRR' (Cp-RR' = pentamethylcyclopentadienyl, trimethylsilylcyclopentadienyl or tetramethylcyclopentadienyl) in diethyl ether results in the two-electron reduction of the solvent to form trimetallic, mixed valence uranium oxo species.
