Methodology of problematic situations is used to carry out a systemic organizational diagnosis of research within the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Los Andes. An idealized model that strengthens the research system is derived. First of all, reference points (conceptual, methodological and con- textual) are developed to understand the case study. Secondly, the methodology involving different tools con- sidered appropriate for handling the complexity of the Faculty is developed.
