In this paper we describe an exploratory user study of the weConnect prototype that provides a dedicated, always-on communication channel among individuals who have established relationships. weConnect includes simple tools that enable the users to integrate different media to create and easily exchange the created content. We found that people chose to produce highly personalized, multi-faceted content to convey shared meaning in a subtle and timely fashion. Our study findings support the view that there is a greater scope for developing simple tools to enable users to author the content that conveys the connection with another person and enrich their relationship.
