Structural characterization of hemoglobin NSeattle:α2Aβ261Lys→Glu

Hemoglobin NSeattle is an abnormal human hemoglobin found in a Seattle man of Negro ancestry. The structure of hemoglobin NSeattle was found by chemical analysis to differ from the structure of normal hemoglobin by the substitution of a glutamic acid residue for the lysine residue in position 61 of the β chain. The structural formula is α2β261 Glu.
