摘要
This is a retrospective case-control study of patients with candidemia and candiduria who were admitted in 8 tertiary hospitals in the Philippines starting Jan. 1, 1993 until Dec. 31, 1993. The prevalence rate was 4.9% for candidemia and 5.5% for candiduria. Candida sp. was responsible for 24 (33%) and 73 (48%) of candidemia and candiduria cases respectively. Use of beta-lactam antibiotics was found to be a significant risk factor common among patients with candidemia and candiduria compared with the controls. Other significant risk factors for candidemia were central venous cannulation, prolonged hospital stay of more than 14 days and use of parenteral nutrition. Other significant risk factors for candiduria were diabetes mellitus, prolonged hospital stay (> 14 days) and confinement in the wards or IC. Treatment and outcome of patients with candidemia and candiduria was not determined in this present study. (Phil J Microbiol Infect Dis 1995; 24(2):43-46)
