Excess losses of singly and doubly clad optical fiber waveguides with bends

From the measurements of excess transmission losses due to external bends, it is shown that doubly clad optical fibers suffer much less bending loss than singly clad optical fibers on the basis of equal index difference between the core and the cladding, and equal core radius.
