Pspice Electronic Model Of A Ferroelectric Liquid Crystal Cell

A model that predicts how the optical transmission and charge acceptance of a ferroelectric liquid crystal cell vary over time with an arbitrary drive voltage is presented. The model is written using PSpice, such that it can be directly integrated with the normal PSpice components used to simulate drive circuitry. The model agrees to within 10% of experimental results, over an applied electric field of 1 to 20 V/mu m. It only requires simple measurements of a sample cell to provide the model parameters. The applications are in optimising shutter design, switching and decay of ferroelectric liquid-crystal on silicon, and effects of drive line and component impedances. With additions to the model, it is expected to be able to simulate Joers/ Alvey passive multiplexing.
