A Case For Application-Level Control Of Network Resources

This article presents the case for application-level control of network resources. As the field of grid computing matures, the limits of the current infrastructure are becoming visible. New generations of distributed applications require much more determinism from the network. We present particular areas where an application-controlled network will prove valuable, such as data transport and dealing with network latency and show opportunities in optimizing distributed applications in this new environment.
