(2E)-1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-4-(methylsulfanyl)phenyl]prop-2-en-1-one

Geometric parameters of the title compound, C16H14O2S, a chalcone derivative, are in the usual ranges. The C C double bond has a trans configuration. The essentially planar molecules (r. m. s. deviation for all non-H atoms = 0.034 angstrom) crystallize in planes parallel to the (140) plane. The molecular conformation is stabilized by an O-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bond. The investigated crystal was a non- merohedral twin with a ratio of the twin components of 0.254 (1): 0.746 (1).
