Tribological Properties of Textured Ti Coating Prepared by Masked Deposition

Current studies have shown that surface texturing and coating technology are two different effective ways to improve the tribological properties of material surfaces. In this paper, we try to combine these two methods in order to obtain better tribological performances. Masks were machined by wire cutting. By covering the surface of the substrate with mask, Ti textured coatings were prepared on the substrate of Si. Friction and wear tests were carried out under dry condition. The effects of test conditions, such as load, sliding speed, mask space ratio were also studied. The results showed that by producing textured coating on the surfaces, tribological properties could be evidently improved.
