A method is described for the determination of volatile odorous impurities in plasticisers using a modified GLC technique in which the plasticiser itself acts as its own stationary phase. Assessments made by an odour panel show that for ester-type plasticisers there is a good correlation with the content of free alcohol down to at least 10 ppm.
