Role of Impedance audiometry in diagnosing the type of otosclerotic focus and in post-operative follow-up

This study was undertaken to evaluate the pre-operative values of static compliance, the thickness of otosclerotic focus and the utility of these parameters in post-operative follow-up of the patients. After stapedectomy Puretone Audiometry showed hearing improvement in all the cases studied. Many of the patients had change in Tympanogram from ‘As’ to ‘A’ types which was again seen more often in patients with thick focus. The most significant post-operative change was seen in static compliance, it increased to within normal range in all the cases. This change was more evident in cases with better hearing improvement.
