Optical Configurations Of Non-Twisted Liquid Crystal Cells For Single-Polarizer Reflective Displays

In this paper we introduce optical configurations of single-polarizer non-twisted liquid crystal cells for high-contrast reflective displays that can be applied to vertical-switching modes as well as horizontal-switching modes. In particular, optical configurations that can provide high contrast without using a wide-band quarter-wave film are proposed. By fabricating reflective cells with the introduced configurations, we demonstrate their optical performance. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
